CANVAS
Here is a quote about my latest film "Canvas"
"Both entertaining and inspiring, CANVAS exposes the plight of a mother afflicted with schizophrenia and the havoc her illness causes her devoted husband and loving son without sugarcoating, but with humor and insight, turning a unsettling subject into a riveting story of redemption and the incredible power of the human spirit. CANVAS made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me angry. And it reminded me that there are hundreds of thousands of ordinary people among us quietly living heroic lives fighting mental illnesses that can break a mind but never the heart. It is a film that needs to seen by every American. Pete Earley, author of CRAZY: A Father's Search Through

I viewed the movie at the NAMI convention in San Diego and was really moved. I think it will be successful. I assume you've set up a trailer on UTUBE and a myspace and facebook page to promote it. Right? If not, you should.
Out of subject a little bit now. I'd like to show my HUGE respect for your acting, especially in "The Sopranos". Just BIG thank you for Ralphie Cifaretto. In some very sick way, I find this guy very ispireing.
The acting was just perfect, brilliant, amazing.
Anyways, since I noticed Ralph in "The Sopranos" I am a fan of Joe Pantoliano :)
Thank you for Ralph.
Plus "Canvas" seems to be very good.
Was Joe Pantoliano at the Albuquerque Hyatt in the morning of Tuesday, August 13, 2007?
Joey, I met you at the NAMI conference in San Diego. I apologize I couldn't talk with you. If you remember, my little granddaughter wanted so badly to meet your co-star, Devon, I had to break away and I felt so bad later, I wanted to apologize. Also, your speech about your mother really struck a chord in me. I had a very similar upbringing and have a deep love for my mother, but I also realize how sick she was and the scars I carry to this day. I have tried to pass on as few of those as possible to my own 2 kids. My son has bipolar disorder and we joined NAMI shortly after he turned 17 (11 years ago). Anyway, I have what I think will be a powerful and funny screenplay based on my mother's life and my life growing up between here and Agropoli, Italy, a little southern fishing village. Would you be willing to read it when I'm finished? I would love your opinion on it. It's not too late that we couldn't collaborate on this if you're interested in pooling our experiences together. I can do all the writing. Let me know. THANKS, Gianni (john)
You stated that mental illness can break a mind, but never a heart. I have looked at life from an opposite perpective for 49 years. My insides are an eternal combustion engine of creative drive with limited access to time for expression. The fire rages on as I use music, photography and writing as a release. The heart has been broken over and over and over, just bearing witness to the injustices of the world and being a mother - my heart breaks and aches. This leads me back to the mind where I attempt to carry the emotion in a double bag until I can get to the guitar or the paper or the camera. From that vantage point, my inner self leaves a mark on whatever I am lucky enough to complete.
Watched you tonight on Tavis Smiley. I understand the apprehension of surendering the emotional highs and lows to medication. I have not yet been able to allow myself the relief from the pain through pharmacology, thinking that my best emotional repertoire would be silenced, worried that my depths would be numbed.
how has it been for you?
Marie
Joey, So glad to hear you talk and cook on Martha this morning. I am 69 and very young for the first time in my life. I have suffered all my life until depression started to be talked about openly. I lived a life of trying to figure out how I should be and in that way was a bit of an actor as well. To be critized about every way I tried to be was horrible. I was in constant criticism of myself, not knowin who to be or how to act. I tried a lot of things to alter myself until I was diagnosed. It took a few tries, but now I am on an exciting path of being me. You and people like you who are not afraid to speek out are saving lives and the sanity of generations who may recognize themselves. Thank you
i know joe personally
he's a real scumbari....
Canvas is a fantastic story that is acted with an amazing and even Oscar-worthy sense of compassion, realism and respect by both Joey P and Devon Gearheart. Marcia Gay Harden did a fantastic job as well.
The choice of a Florida location including the house and yard settings were very well conceived and made the movie feel as if it were truly at a real place in time and not part of some Hollywood set in California or Florida. The casting of all the characters was very good and there seemed to be a strong desire to avoid some of the predictability that is so prevalent today. I especially appreciated the romantic interest of "Chris" in that she seemed to be a very real type girl. It would have been very easy to choose the perfect little princess, but the movie would have suffered as a result.
I have always appreciated Joey's roles, but I have to say that this role in particular was so good because he allowed himself to step outside of some the character types that he has become so associated with. In my opinion, a movie with this type of heart-wrenching emotional quality can only serve to create more opportunities for Joey. As for Devon, I hope that he continues to get the kind of roles that will allow him to express a wide range of emotions. He is fantastic and is only going to get better.
On a personal note, as an art director, I tripped onto the movie first from the title, CANVAS, second from the listing of Pantoliano, and finally from the satellite description of the story. I only wish that I had seen some type of advertisement at the theater. I would have gladly paid for two tickets and popcorn.
I hope you don't forget the kids. It is so hard for them to deal with life. I think that many people with bipolar, depression and other interesting personalities are drawn to the arts because such a wide range of behavior is allowed. Can you imagine some of the successful people in the arts working at Walmart? They would be fired before the water got hot! Perhaps it is some of these personalities that add spice to the population. I would be so bored if all the people had personalities just alike :) Pam
Nice to follow this pretty site.it describes about the canvas that describes human relations.A family is highlighted where mother suffers from some illness.

I saw your interview on the Bonnie Hunt Show and I was extremely touched. It is refreshing to hear people speak of their mental illness showing love, kindness and patience. I own and operate a small community newspaper. The paper is devoted to encouraging, inspiring and enlightening stories. You sure have a great one to share. If you are interested in contributing an article, I would be so pleased. I too battle with anxiety and agoraphobia. This paper has been my way to proove to myself and my readers that good things do happen. And...that you can get through the tough times with love and support. I am very impressed with what you are giving back to the world. I say bravo to you!!!
Please feel free to email me with any questions.
